Pisces Moon
Dear Soul
Dear Soul, this letter is in answer to a recent comment asking about what it means to have a Pisces Moon in your personal chart. We all experience a Pisces Moon once a month for approximately two- and a-bit days. This means we all feel the pull towards having an emotional Pisces experience with it tugging at our dreams, inspiring us to be part of something greater and find our spirituality. It might be at this time you feel inspired to explore mindfulness or meditation before it passes over and we feel a need for action. If it is in your chart, and one of the big three (Sun, Moon, and Ascendant) it is a major component of who you are.
In astrology each of the planets represents a part of who we are and the sign they fall into shows us how the planet will operate within us. When you read the whole natal chart (snapshot of the sky at the moment of your birth) it shows us a blueprint, a possibility of who we are and is a gateway to understanding the self. The moon shows us how we process emotion and how we feel, how we heal and how we can nurture ourselves. In truth the whole chart shows us who we can be or where we may go in life. There is no guarantee how our charts will show up in life as we all have free will in the expression and choices we make. Each possibility has endless ways of finding a way to be expressed through us. The planets and signs show us a way forward and a way to understand our self if we let it. We do have a natural tendency to be our charts consciously or not. Somethings are just innate in us and alien to others and an Astrological Natal chart can help explain why this is so.
When we take all the planets together, I view them as our own personal counsel, each with their own agenda. I feel that the movie Inside Out, where the main humanistic drives are given a voice inside the head of the characters we watch, is a good indication of how the planets work. Each planet in every chart will have its own avatar. The avatar acting on behalf of the planet is the sign it occupies. This letter is giving the Moon the avatar of Pisces.
What Does the Moon Represent?
In astrology the Moon speaks of all that nurtures you and of your internal world. She is one of only two celestial bodies aligned with the feminine or the Yin. She wears the three faces of Maiden, Mother and Crone. She fully embraces the emotional expression with an emphasis on the need to succor, nurture and a desire to heal. She is the wisdom that belongs to the night and all that takes place under her. She is the representative of home and how we like our personal havens to be. She is always in continual motion. We watch her in the sky waxing and waning between the darkness of night in the new moon; then we see her build towards her glorious brilliance in the light of the full moon. She also has many phases between these two extremes. The moon’s constant cycle and movement have her changing signs every two and bit days. When we put all this together, we see flexibility of her emotional nature in the highs and lows. How we deal with emotional issues and our innate or subconscious behaviors.
The moon is our emotional landscape. Our inner world that nurtures us. It describes the parts of us that we act on unconsciously, that come to us intuitively. I have heard the Moon described by Stephen Forrest as the “average of your mood.” I guess you could see it as a mood board describing your inner world, how you wish to be looked after and how you will meet the needs of others. The theme of this mood board is decided by the sign it falls in. To understand your Moon, you could create a picture board with all that encompasses the sign that represents your moon; I feel this would give you clarity of your inner world and understanding of how your emotions rule your life. The quality of each moon in an individual chart is also tempered by the Moon phase and to know this you would need to look at your natal chart.
The moon is love but it is more the emotional love of a parent rather than that of the lover. It is the love that fosters our growth in life. If we want to grow into healthy individuals, we need to honor what she means to us. She is feminine and all that entails, and she is our beginning, middle and end. She begins our life with nurture that she helps us to work on so we can embrace the wisdom of the crone as we mature through life. The moon shows us what nutritional food (metaphorically speaking) we need in life to feel safe enough to grow our root system anchoring us into life.
The moon helps to point us the way we need to develop if we wish to heal our wounds in life, helping and guiding us to grow into well rounded individuals.
Pisces Moon
Pisces is related to where we seek our highest level of consciousness. Where we give expression to our spirituality. How and where we find connection to something greater than the self and ego. It is a place where we explore who we are in the universe and what it all means. It is the ability to observe and create action. It is governed by our emotions, dreams and soul. It is where we aspire to be greater than we are now and a place for inspiration to help us dream of what we wish to create. It is the great dream and our place in it.
Pisces is deeply related to the water element and so too is the moon making this a more comfortable pairing. The moon is the celestial body that pulls the tides creating ebbs and flows in water all over the world and within our body. Pisces could be compared with and viewed as the ocean who has her tides pulled and pushed giving us a synchronistic view of how they work together. The element of water has deep ties to the emotional world of feelings centered around our need to nurture and heal. It is the element that rules intuition. It is an element that marks and records history and our lineage creating a link to our ancestors. To truly know the nature of water, take time to observe it in life to gain a deeper understanding. It falls gently from the sky or comes in torrents, washing all that is in its path away cleansing as it goes. Water can gently seep into all areas of life. Water can carry impurities and disease spreading it as it flows. Water purifies or needs purification depending on how you care for your emotional and inner world. Water has no shape and needs a container to give it form. All this relates to the shape of the Piscean Moon. This element is amplified in this pairing and their similarities aid each other allowing a flow between them both. Having said this the ease in which they speak to each other can cause them to enable each other rather than pushing for growth. It would be easy to hide out and away from the world.
Pisces is how you dream and the desire to belong to something greater than the self. It is the archetype of idealism and mysticism. All that is beyond this physical world and resides in the realm of the unknown or what we may call the other side or a different dimension. Pisces is spiritual, emotions and the soul. Pisces is tied to dreams and idealism. The avatar of Pisces is linked to the archetypes of Dancer, Poet, Mystic and becomes the heart of and inspiration giving voice to something greater than just existing. She is our muse encouraging us to live life beyond that of the ego. She speaks to us in feelings and images rather than fact. She is the emotional tie coupling us to the world and our desire to be part of the best part of Humanity. All of this is what nurtures you in this world and expands your emotional wellbeing.
Our very consciousness is what buoys our emotional mood. We seek the mystical and spiritual for it is here that we find nurturance for our very soul. It is in developing our intuition and preternatural psychic abilities that help us grow and heal. It is using creativity to express ourselves that we find relief. It is finding that our emotional world is linked to an appreciation of art, song, and dance. It is seeking out mind altering practices so we can feel the joy of finding a connection that is greater than the self and allows us to connect to a sense of oneness with the world. I think a Piscean Moon person would struggle with the way that man tears each other and the world apart. I think they would despair at the inability to comprehend how all of us are connected in one way or another.
It is the fear that there is a possibility for the individual to become lost in mind altering ways of being, lost to substance abuse and addictive behaviors. It can be the inability to live in life that is not how it dreamed it to be. It can be the inability to tell reality from the dream. It can be the nightmare that feeds our desire to escape. Pisces can give us the ultimate fairy tale or nightmare. Pisces asks us to be open to the connection of life itself but with that we could be open to an emotional overload and hurt leaving us just trying to live and unable to enjoy the beauty of this pairing.
A Moon in Pisces to feel nurtured needs to have a vibrant spiritual world, one that has an honored place in our life. We want to belong to something more in life that is greater than the self, one where we feel a part of something larger. A Pisces moon tells me that your internal world and the need for respite gives you a need for time alone to meditate, to take yourself out of the everyday grind giving you a chance to enhance your inner world by contemplating on the depth and breadth of life, this is where you find that you feel nurtured. Your moon needs you to dream and feel connected to the greater collective in life. Knowing you are not alone and yet having alone time feeds your emotional world.
This pairing invokes imagination and ability to dream. It enables the ability to develop psychic talents and heightens our sensitivities and empathetic abilities. Emotionally it can be hard to know what are your emotions and what belongs to someone else as empathy rules your world. It is ephemeral and amorphous, changeable in its very nature leading to a constant push and pull in how you feel within the world and life. This moon would ask you to go with the flow, encourage dreaming and reaching for more spiritual awareness. All this is important for this Moon.
This is only a possibility of what a Piscean Moon could mean to an individual. The Piscean Moon asks you to dream big and to develop your spiritual Soul. You may feel the pull of it all or only some or you may not yet resonate with this letter. Just know that this is the possibility that is open to you.
I hope this helps in understanding the Pisces Moon.
