Living Monument

I am your living Monument,

Caught in gilded cage.

I will sit here untouched,

Preserved since that fateful day.

I’m not allowed to live and grow.

I am to remain the same!

Immortalized in tragic love,

Forever stuck, held in time and pain.

For you I’m not allowed a life,

Where I live for something new.

I may not live or breathe!

I must remain the same, unchanged and true.

Held in endless misery from the pain of bitter loss,

An eternity will come and go,

Before you allow me to move on!

You show me no mercy nor any Grace,

Only unspoken rules that I must obey.

I am the alter upon which you mourn.

Not truly seen at all,

I am a person in my own right!

I am one person not two!

I must remain forever frozen in time,

Only known as the widow,

“How sad for one so young as you!”

The past is unchangeable,

No matter how hard you pray it’s not.

It will not and cannot, go back to what was.

I wish for a life beyond what others see.

One where I can begin to breathe in life more easily.

A life of acceptance that life has forever changed,

One where others finally see,

I am more than their pain!

I have done the time and worked upon myself!

Why can’t I be set free to live and love once more?

One without judgement, anger and pride!

I want to leave the past behind,

Releasing the anguish of hurt and grief.

I have carved a new life,

Beyond the world I once knew.

It is time for new beginnings,

Something beautiful and new.

It is freedom my soul needs,

To soar high once more.

For the love of life, a miracle occurred!

I found happiness,

A new love just for me.

I found love a soul connection.

A chance for a family of three.

I will hold this cherished moment deeply in my heart.

Love has bloomed so precious and rare,

I will protect you no matter what!

From those who wish you gone from my life!

I am not their living monument!

They need to let me go.
